Regulars will probably remember a previous Gurn about nairnscotland.co.uk. Well the site still proudly tells you all you need to know about events in and around Nairn in 2007 and among other things it still seems that this site thinks John Matheson is one of our councillors. The ticker tape message on the home page states '+++ Welcome to Nairn +++ For further information, see the calendar.' Please will somebody update the site or do the decent thing and turn the lights out? According to Google this is 'The comprehensive portal for Nairn and Nairnshire, developed by the Nairn Initiative', any bets on it being updated before 2010? Thank goodness it only comes up as number two on a google search for Nairn behind Iain Fairweathers private enterprise effort. How many folk may have been put off coming to Nairn by a lack of current information? This could be something for the Association of Nairn Businesses to get their teeth into instead of writing objections to the Sainsbury's supermarket!
Bump: 5/1 (lot of interest in this one)

Surly two years and one second out of date this year?
I seem to remember being told that Highland Council staff had been given the appropriate training to keep that web site up to date, and that was about a year ago.......... but, you can't rush these things.
You can rush planning permission through for flats, that no one wants and you can even rush through a decision to close the planning office itself but don't do anything that could be of any possible good to the town.
Spot on Spurtle!
Further investigation reveals on the Internet a Ward 19 Ward forum meeting on Weds the 5th December 2007.
Item 3.3. of maters arising states:
'3.3 Website Project Group – LC confirmed that the Project Group had met and discussed in detail the content of www.nairnscotland.co.uk and what information should be rationalised. LC also confirmed that the trainer had been contacted and a date was due to be set shortly for four staff to receive the relevant training. '

Do we now have hidden away somewhere, four people that are capable of updating the site. to be brutal about it, updating a calender on a website isn't rocket science.
In my, admittedly, limited experience, working on rockets isn't really rocket science , and updating a web site is child's play.
It does reflect badly on the town generally though , and , while I don't think it's their responsibility to put it right, I will speak to someone from the ANB about it. They could at least raise it at the next ward forum meeting.
I suspect that the main reason is that the people who were working on this particular 'project' have now gone on to other things or been seconded onto another, equally 'worthwhile' project.
Even though, you would think there is someone, somewhere who is capable of pulling the plug on this fiasco, surely it's better to for it to be out of sight (out of mind) instead of lurking like a bad smell!

Unqoute" - Like myself! anyone that works for the HC will tell you - "if something goes wrong -blame it on lack of training, if after training it still goes wrong - blame the training!
Simple - and meanwhile the Ward Manager (Louise Clark) who gets a bundle! can then blame the IT system no doubt!
Well Anon, I don't know how much LC earns but could one be forgiven for saying that anyone that works at Highland Council gets a bundle compared to what many council-tax payers get?
While they are at it,they could maybe give their staff some training on how to load a shovel with salt, and spread it on the pavements around the town

They did a couple of years back!
Not very fast learners then, are they?
They were very fast at learning but they've forgotten it now!
Get more "shovel trainers then"
I believe this is about to become an IT issue rather than one of shovel trainers
