Nairn Academy, should there be a public meeting?

A concerned parent as contacted the Gurn, this parent believes there should be a public meeting held in the town to discuss both the possible health risks that pupils and staff may face at the Academy and the disruption to the pupils' education. The parent believes that the meeting should also be open to primary school parents whose children will eventually go to the Academy and that Nairn's four councillors should be present to answer questions.
Meanwhile the £1.8 million that will be spent on Nairn Academy has raised envious eyebrows in the North and tough questions are being asked of Wick's local councillors. Read about it here. Provost Liz has already renewed her call for a new school but the Wick article demonstrates that Nairn will be fighting for funding against other communities that will consider themselves just as deserving. The whole Nairnshire community needs to get behind the call for a new Academy and perhaps a public meeting would be the best way forward.

Well, maybe that's another campaign which needs to be started! It may seem trivial but I think it's a major part of the continuing loss our identity as Nairn. You see us listed as in Inverness, Inverness-shire, Moray, Morayshire, etc, etc. What's the strangest one anyone else has seen?
Is it time that we started to fight back (and I don't give a damn about anyone who says 'officially' the address is blah, blah). It's Nairn, Nairnshire !!! So from now on, put Nairnshire on your correspondence, demand that all these organisations who have not got Nairn on their database lists (that's why they don't know where to put us and lump us under somewhere else) and all the newspapers and tv lot who get it wrong, start to get it right!

  6. Yes Doc, Nairn did get a charter for a Royal Burgh and all that that meant/means including the Mercat cross outside the Courthouse. Now a very learned gentleman once told the Gurnmeister that the charter had been placed in a 'vacuum' by the Civic Government Scotland Act 1982.
I'm not an expert Doc but I think that that is indeed how it is. Thus once again it would be just superb if an organisation calling itself the 'Royal Burgh of Nairn Community Council' came into being. A chance to preserve the Nairn and Nairnshire identities!

  7. It shows just how much people care about what is going on at nairn academy as it hasn't been mentioned once in the previous 6 comments. Maybe giving the school a fresh start as The Nairnshire Royal Academic Institute would solve all these problems and get 'nairnshire' back on everyones mail in the morning - you know, the real important issue.

OK, we may have wandered a bit off topic on this but if you look back for most of last week and the week before you will see there has been a lot of discussion and comments regarding the situation at Nairn Academy.
