What won't get in the Gurn what's on

Sorry we won't be putting up business related events, just community stuff - duck races, coffee mornings, club and society type things.
Here's an example we received of regular events that do deserve a bit of publicity, particularly in the holiday season but are not really what the Gurn team had in mind for the what's on.
Every Friday Disco/Karaoke Star Hotel Stables Bar
Every Saturday Entertainment Star Hotel Stables Bar (live band every so often)
Every Sunday Disco/Karaoke Star Hotel Stables Bar

Sunday 3rd May 4pm Star Hotel Live Jam session including Banjo John and Ronnie. Bring along an instrument and have a laugh. (Make sure you take the Monday Off!!) Then Live singers all night at the Karaoke (Some aint good!!)

Saturday 9th May Star Hotel and Stables Bar 12:30 KO Rangers V Celtic Live on Big screen TV's throughout the building. Free Food supplied (While Stocks Last)
There it is Gurnites, fun to be had at the Star - perhaps there is a need for a pub blog or web site in Nairn? In the meantime if you have a nonprofit-making community event then please contact: gurnwhatson@googlemail.com

I do not understand your reasoning then. You are showing a link called "Whats on" if visitors come to your sitre to see "Whats on" and you have this empty then are they not going to think "There is nothing on"? The more info you put into this section the better as far as i am concerned!!

I am afraid i have to disagree with the naming then of your supplement. You have named it "Whats on in Nairn". These things are on in Nairn. If you are not informing people of this sort of thing then please stop confusing folk that vist by naming it "Whats on in Nairn that doesnt invole profit making establishments"

I think the Gurn is Ok by just putting worthy causes in its whats on section.
It is not trying to be a guide for visitors and already has more entries than the Visitscotland section for Nairn which is meant for visitors

I think the Gurn is right! Commercial organisations can pay to advertise their events in newspapers or wherever else they wish; but clubs, community groups, and other nonprofit-making organisations don't have funds available for advertising. Thank you, Gurn, for providing this new service for the community of Nairn.

Why not post the seaforth music as it is a club that does great things for the Erskin Hospital

Does the Gurn not want to encourage more visitors to the site?

The seaforth does do things for Erskine but then the RBL does things for Earl Haig, The Star does things for the RNLI etc etc etc etc.

I am surprised that the Gurn is not taking the opertunity to get more people to access his site. Having a section like this will also help encourage holiday makers read the rest of the site and get involved in things like, getting the bailey bridge reopened etc etc.

  7. there's always Larry McLycra's Sports Roundup -

    In the Running!!

Well it's been a fantastic start to the season, what with all those Lycra-Clad Lovelies out in the field, defying the laws of gravity and generally intimidating plump people. What a joy it is to see them all 'warming up', comparing woolly hats, waterproof jackets, mittens and of course, not forgetting those truly vwonderful 'Trainers the Price of a 3-Piece Suite' and...and they're off ... !!!!!! Errrmm, goodbyee!

  8. suggestion for bigholly who seems to be a spokesperson for nairns entertainment advertising, why not don yourself a sandwich board and parade up and down the high street advertising these events , great way of getting word out about nairns entertainment !

  9. I think bigholly has a misunderstanding of "whats on " my belief is the gurns intentions was to publisise community whats on events eg coffee mornings, fundraising events etc, this website i beleive was not intended for visitor imformation but a website for "nairnites" there are plenty publications bigholly could advertise the goings on in his local pub. eg nairnshire telegraph, nairn lesuire guide etc , but to say his local pub does stuff for the RNLI!... yes a few other pubs have collection tins as well !

  11. Not being funny, but my close associate Mr H Lecter is a tad agitated, as he was in the Gurn and now he's not. If it's the feds, just spin them a yarn, OK? He is a reformed man now! Have pity! He grows marrows and lettuces and that. Ok, so he does still like a slice of social worker from time to time, but who doesn't?! Give the guy a break, OK. Oh hang on, he does look a bit hungry, and his eyes have gone a bit, red, and....and..funny lookin....no! No Dr Lecter! It's me! Pookie, your ....friend...Argggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..............................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dr-grigor......Do what you do best. Nothing.

The RNLI thing was a bit of banter which obviously went over your bronze pigeon pooped head. I wll save the gurn from doing any researching. Every saturday in the year Coffee morning either seaforth club or RBL. What else is on other than these fund raisers in Nairn........nothing. I am suggesting to the gurn to make this site a bigger one than it is and reach out to more than just bronze statues and as for pookie.......no comment

PS can we take this thread to the top again please it is great.

  13. Dr Lecter wishes to say a few words on my behalf:
    Havingheadstuckupownarse : The Facts!!
    By Dr Hannibal Lecter, Md,Bd,Dng,Tknw
(mad, bad and dangerous to know...)
In my esteemed opinion, and after many, many, many long years of intensive and thorough research into the phenomenon known as Havingheadstuckupownarse, or HHSUOA,I am convinced that there are many silent sufferers out there in Nairn. This condition, by
it's very nature, is intrinsically damaging to the mental health of those without their head stuck up their own arse. I regret that I must include myself in their number, and blame my well-documented descent into the darkest depths of murderous criminal insanity, more or less entirely on HHSUOA. To this end, I am currently petitioning the BMA and indeed anyone else who doesn't have their head stuck up their own arse, to insist on health
warnings being mandatory on anyone showing early warning signs of having their head stuck up their own arse. Perhaps accompanied by a Government Health campaign etitled: JUST SAY NO TO PEOPLE THAT HAVE THEIR OWN HEAD STUCK UP THEIR ARSE! Catchy, eh? I thought so. Anyway, please do excuse me, only I'm meeting an old friend
for dinner, who very definately has their head stuck up their own arse. Ta ta.....

  14. Big Holly I think you are right, this thread needs to go back up to the top. We'll wait until tomorrow though because sales of the Gurn always go up when people get back to work and get bored.

A thread of air times. Imagine if something goes wrong in the digital future and all that was left of Nairn in cyberspace was this thread...
