The Highland News carries a story suggesting that Nairn should ditch the idea of a new supermarket in the town centre and campaign for a new arts centre instead.
Nairn certainly enjoys several arts based festivals each year, but despite the attractiveness of a new arts centre I don’t suppose many Nairnites would be over the moon about having to go out of town for all their food shopping if this proposal goes ahead and we don’t get a new town based store.
It does however add a new dimension as to what to do with the Co-op owned Somerfield store, but will this just lengthen and complicate the already exceedingly long debate over the issue?
Nairn Matters is on the case too
ReplyDeletelets go for it !!!
ReplyDeleteI say good luck to the people of Nairn for taking such an enthusiastic interest in their community.
ReplyDeleteBut beware, you now have 3 different community councils, a newly formed residents group and numerous other organistions.
Success will come only through unity of purpose which can be found by a careful analysis of any and all the options (and their pros and cons) by everyone who has a stake in the future of Nairn.
Creating a sense of ownersip for whatever proposals are put forward will mean a lot of listening and a lot of understanding of the perspectives of others.
Bon voyage
sounds very wrong to me, for all that is worth. god i am tired
ReplyDeleteIf Somerfield is bulldozed for the sake of art, where will this carless ageing person go to get food?
ReplyDeleteI dont have a car either but i would be willing to travel a short distance out of town if it were to give us this planned arts centre
ReplyDeleteWhere else but Sainsburys.Say no more!
ReplyDeleteI remember not too long ago the question being asked."Can we have our town back please".
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the latest ideas for a proposed Art Centre etc.I think we should all ask again,as nobody seems to have listened.
were listening but no-one's talking !
ReplyDeletehuh...
ReplyDeletehate to be negative, but this sounds seriously pie-in-the-sky to me.
ReplyDeleteBut on a similar line - has a location for the proposed new Highland Art Gallery been decided yet ?
I recall several sites in Inversnecky being proposed, but I don't see why such a development shouldn't come to Nairn.
