The Highland News carries a story suggesting that Nairn should ditch the idea of a new supermarket in the town centre and campaign for a new arts centre instead.Nairn certainly enjoys several arts based festivals each year, but despite the attractiveness of a new arts centre I don’t suppose many Nairnites would be over the moon about having to go out of town for all their food shopping if this proposal goes ahead and we don’t get a new town based store.
It does however add a new dimension as to what to do with the Co-op owned Somerfield store, but will this just lengthen and complicate the already exceedingly long debate over the issue?

I say good luck to the people of Nairn for taking such an enthusiastic interest in their community.
But beware, you now have 3 different community councils, a newly formed residents group and numerous other organistions.
Success will come only through unity of purpose which can be found by a careful analysis of any and all the options (and their pros and cons) by everyone who has a stake in the future of Nairn.
Creating a sense of ownersip for whatever proposals are put forward will mean a lot of listening and a lot of understanding of the perspectives of others.

If Somerfield is bulldozed for the sake of art, where will this carless ageing person go to get food?
I dont have a car either but i would be willing to travel a short distance out of town if it were to give us this planned arts centre

After reading the latest ideas for a proposed Art Centre etc.I think we should all ask again,as nobody seems to have listened.

hate to be negative, but this sounds seriously pie-in-the-sky to me.
But on a similar line - has a location for the proposed new Highland Art Gallery been decided yet ?
I recall several sites in Inversnecky being proposed, but I don't see why such a development shouldn't come to Nairn.
