Here at the Gurn we support those that would like to see a 'Royal Burgh of Nairn Community Council.' Here's a comment made at the Ward Forum on Tuesday night by one of the town's Community Councillors Brian Stewart:
'There needs to be a coherent, considered, effective voice articulating the sentiments and views of everyone in Nairn. Most other big towns, most other towns of this size do it. There seems no earthly reason why we can’t do the same.'
If you agree that Nairn should be represented by a single Community Council – ie. A Royal Burgh of Nairn Council then send a quick e-mail saying so to this address:
That’s the address of the Highland Council review team. If you’d like to send a letter or print off copies for others then there’s a PDF document here that will do the job. http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/narann/singlecomc.pdf
The Gurn understands that at a meeting of the town's three existing councils last night there was agreement to seek to allow the people of Nairn have their say on this matter in the most appropriate way possible since the debate at the Ward Forum was squeezed at both ends by other matters. One of the supplementry items was put on the agenda in a most controversial manner - see what Liz has to say about the agenda of that meeting being 'hijacked' in this week's Nairnshre.
