The roads are there to be used, its better than sitting in the traffic jams, and as I said if you pay your road tax / insurance then why shouldnt you use these roads?
I have always used this route as I live near the links and its easier for me than the A96.
Although now you have advertised it I am sure it will get busier!
I dont find any of your comments funny as I live on this stretch of road and have seen several near accidents as well as cars racing along this road and just about knocking over dogs and pedestrians alike. Maybe the police should be more aware of the problems that have been created by the A96 works. Will it take a fatality to make you more aware????
Whilst I have every sympathy for residents who live in Nairn's west end, these are public roads that are being used as a bypass (hurray, we got one!) from roadworks on the A96.
As long as drivers stay within the law with regard their speed etc there is nothing that the police can do to stop them using these routes
It may be that these street become a permanent route for many people. We will have to wait and see as to what delays there are when the traffic lights are installed and fully operational
Meanwhile I will continue to use the route much as it appears on the map for this post
Anyone resident in the West End areas concerned that are worried about speeding and other dangers from motorists should of course contact the police and also get in touch with the West Community Council who are campaigning to get solutions to these rat run issues.
"I don't think it's fair calling it a "rat run"!!! Mr or Mrs anonymous if you lived in the so called rat run I'd like to know how you'd feel!! As you live near the links imagine the showies being there every week not just one! And believe me it doesn't need to be "advertised" as it's already busy.
The showies are here for many more weeks than one these days, however I digress
The alternative routes through Nairn are going to see a lot of use, both now and in the future
The need for a bypass has been debated many times before, and I'm afraid the current road works and even the lights when they are installed might well mean that many motorists continue to use the back routes
It's the growing nature of Nairn and indeed the Highlands. More people, more cars, and more supermarkets. I think it's called progress?
I'm born and bred and grew up nowing it as a rat run due to being long and narrow like a rat run. It is busy as there are a lot more houses there than when I was wee. I blame it on the sat navs as lorry drivers just ask for alternate routes avoiding the roadworks. It was just as busy when they resurfaced the road what was it 4-5 yrs ago.
The Pied Piper Traffic System is the only answer Governor its cushty & guaranteed will soon get rid of gits in their flash motors bung us a "monkey" & its sorted. My company which is based in Stepney wants to expand to Jockland to sort out those geezers who take the urine, just give us a bell through our Nairn Gurn Agent The Cockney Sparrow who if you speak to him nicely will get it sorted Mate, as the saying goes who gives a flying duck for those who chance their luck, so be warned Rat Bags the London Boys may be knocking on yer windscreen soon.
