Regal clean-up gets underway

Two painters getting down to it this evening at the Regal. They were taking advantage of the entrance cover to continue working in the showers. They told the Gurn that the whole building was getting spruced up.
Congratulations to
the Facebook group that got this sorted. This is down to you guys - well done!

Good old Co-op. Not only did they revamp the store when they could have just closed it, but now they've paid out for a slap of paint which is more than the previous owners of the store ever did - thinking here Morrisons, Somerfield

not before time hope it will look better for us all, not just our visitors only hope they do something with the petrol station as well this is an eyesore that needs looked at,perhaps this will encourage the onwner's of the other buildings that are falling down to do something about them.

Lets give the Co-op credit for taking action, even if they had to be shamed into doing it.

One small step... When they have smartened up the Regal, maybe they could do something about the filling station too?

Perhaps then the owner of the bus station will be prepared to do something about that other long-standing eyesore?

Correspondents who have looked at the old filling station recently must be aware that it is FOR SALE.

Used to be quite busy a few years ago. Guess there's too much competition in town, plus I understand that a million drivers have sold or scrapped their cars in the last year because they can't afford to run them.

This might be a good time should any reader fancy trying a low offer for the business?

No sign of anyone there today, is it just being done as a homer in the evening!

The Co-op should learn from Sainsbury's and get the Community Councils onside with meetings and issue a press release etc.

Hang on a minute...one of them looks suspiciously like "oor Graham"!

Those of us with longer memories might remember that the Co-op sponsored our Highland games last year, and have made many financial contributions to our community over the years

I for one hope that both the Co-op and Sainsbury's continue to flourish in Nairn.

The state of the King Street store when they bought the Somerfields chain was in part due to Highland Council, but glad to see that the Co-op is paying some attention to the Regal. Perhaps that means they will be staying in Nairn

I doubt that any work will be carried out to the filling station though. It's up for sale and the Co-op already has the one at the West End. I suspect that it will remain for sale for a long time now that we also have Sainsbury's selling fuel in Nairn

There will be long memories said...

of how the Co-op tried to stop Nairn getting a decent sized supermarket. they did it to themselves not anyone else.

Lets hope the " Somerfield Chain" was left attached, then everyone can pull together.

So the Co-op who own several stores in Nairn were just supposed to roll over and say thank you very much when a competitor wanted to build a new supermarket in Nairn?

growtosow said...

so only the CO OP can trade in nairn? so happened to competition? or is that not allowed in nairn?

Well said Growtosow the co-op say they are "caring sharing" but they were just greedy and wanted every penny they could get off Nairn people.
That's why people of this town are going to Sainsbury's in their thousands.

The co-op didn't try to stop Sainsbury's for the public's benefit. At the end of the day any retailer is in this for profit not for the good of the community! With that in mind why should we have any sympathy or loyalty to any of them?

The Co-op profits are paid out to anyone who holds a dividend card, not shareholders like other supermarkets.

Some people say that the Co-op is expensive. If they are then it might be because they pay their producers a fair wage for their goods

Some people will recall that the Co-op supported the miners when they were on strike and gave families free food, no other supermarkets did this

We have a choice now in Nairn for supermarkets, up to you to decide as to which way you want go

went passed yesterday Friday 12th, have they finished? I hope not, they've only painted the stonework and left the woodwork etc they way it was. It looks like a halfhearted/half-finished/run ot of money job!! It now looks as bad or if not worse.
