Crossroads in the Highlands had a major setback recently when Highland Council awarded their respite care contracts to another charity. Despite that setback the Gurn understands that the local branch is committed, as best as it can , to continue to provide its excellent service to the community and just how much Crossroads is appreciated by our community was shown when it was announced that Sainsbury's customers had chosen Crossroads Nairn & District as Sainsbury’s Nairn local charity partner for 2011/2012. The announcement comes after the store asked customers which local charity they should support. Customers were able to vote for their favourite local charity in early September.
Crossroads works to provide support for carers in the community. It was chosen as the store’s charity after nominations poured in from customers keen to support a local good cause. Over the next 12 months, the charity will benefit from money donated through fundraising as well as volunteering.
Wilma McMahon of Crossroads said: “We’re really excited to be partnering with Sainsbury’s Nairn over the next 12 months and would like to thank everyone in the community who voted for us. We will be planning fundraising activities with the store colleagues in the coming weeks and we hope that customers will support the store’s fundraising efforts in the coming months”.
Raymond Barton, Sainsbury’s Nairn store manager, added: “Crossroads is such a worthy local cause and we’re pleased and proud to be supporting it over the next 12 months. We’ll be letting our customers know of our fundraising plans and we hope they can join our colleagues in helping to support them”.
Well done Sainsbury's - nice to see some big congolomerate (nice word, gawd knows what it means!) putting something back into the local community. What would be really cool though, is if the adoptive celeb face of Sainsbury's, TV chef Jamie Oliver, could do an impromptu fundraising 'cook in' down on the bandstand. Thoughts...?
ReplyDeleteIf what i have heard is true I find it very hard to work out how Highland Council withdrew Crossroads Scotland contract & have now awarded it to Carr Gomm
ReplyDeleteScotland who apparently dont have enough staff members to cover Nairn did those at Glenurquhart Rd.Inverness not do their homework first before they signed on the dotted line as its very worrying for us pensioners who were well cared for by the Crossroads ladies who are now to be made redundant.
