Nairn High Street seems to be able to sook money as though it was a cash rich era, but all the new lights are going to do it highlight the poor state of repair of many of the buildings
Are new lights, CCTVs, and a lick of paint the best we can come up with to use the money?
Maybe they could install new lights along the riverside path between the Merryton and Bailey bridges ? That would be too sensible with the winter coming I expect !
What A clever way to save money!. Shut off some lights but instal new else where. CCTV that will run be monitored and maintained another saving?? So lets paint the town red and have A party. And when I try to get a ramp for the disabled. Mothers with prams or anyone who can not negotiate the steps at the Firhall estimated at £31000 I get told there is NO money for that. THAT'S IS HOW TO SAVE. SPEND IT ON THINGS NOT NEEDED
Let's put the money aside. For the reopening of the bailey bridge.........one day.........see everyone can think of a better idea than tarting up a dead high street. Or just put the money aside till the town centre is decided upon ...what we are having or not having..otherwise anything it is spent on now, will more than likely be demolished when the time comes,if the time comes!
@ anon@8.26 The High Street isn't dead, maybe its quiet sometimes but there seems to be no shortage of people willing to step in once a shop becomes empty. Unlike in Inverness where there are some ugly gaps in the town centre.
It'll be nice if a few shopfronts get tarted up, we'll all benefit from that. It's our High Street, use it of lose it? Now excuse me I have to go back to Amazon for that book Mrs Gurmeister wants for Christmas.
I think Mrs Gurnmeister would like a gift that was a little more subtle, how about the frame and picture shop on the Brae, now a snip as it's been reduced to only £40K
@Ho,ho,ho Mrs Gurnmeister is most upset with how her comments were reported in the Nairnshire and is submitting a letter to the Leopold Street Thunderer. She was in fact referring to the situation in the winter, which seems to have escaped the attention of the reporter present at the Community Council meeting. Is there perhaps not a danger if what someone says does not accurately appear in print then they might refrain from saying anything in public in the future? More will be revealed in next week's letters column in the Nairnshire Telegraph perhaps?

Why is it shopkeepers get to spend the saisnbury money - what about the rest of the town?
"£67,600 for the shop front scheme, where inventive use is made of vacant shop fronts."
!!! as far as I'm aware, any shop that is vacant in Nairn is almost immediately snapped up, revamped, and reopened fairly quickly.
Is this monies being set aside by Inverness people who just don't know what Nairn High Street is really like?

More lights that's just what Nairn needs. Traffic lights street lights ,kerb blocking all useless without more shops.

I bet Mrs Gurnmeister has expensive tastes why dont you buy her the old community centre for her Christmas, go on you know it makes sense.

After reading the attributed comment in the local 45p news spin with regard to lights and Broadhill might I suggest a new pair of specs for the Mrs?
