A little light in the darkness from this Highland Council Press Release:
"The first new council houses to be built in Nairn for 16 years will soon be allocated to tenants.
8 2-bed bungalows for older people at Corsee, Nairn, have been completed and have been handed over to the Council by contractor UBC Group Ltd.
Tenants have been identified for the properties and hopefully will move in before Christmas.
The cost of the project is £770,000.
Councillor Margaret Davidson, Chairman of the Council's Housing and Social Work Committee, said: "After an absence of 16 years, it is great to back providing council houses in Nairn. The new homes at Corsee will provide eagerly-awaited accommodation for older people.
"The Nairn homes are part of a wider Council house building programme, currently featuring 202 houses throughout the Highlands. Our longer term target is to build 750 council houses by 2015." "
A potential drop in the ocean of much needed social housing, but looks like it evaporated before it got there with all units taken
ReplyDeleteMaybe a few more at the other end of Viewfield soon?
ReplyDeleteWait until you see who these lovely properties have been allocated too.
ReplyDeleteI am sure there is something illegal about the council asking people to give up there bigger houses and they will get a smaller one at view field... After all young people have nothing to give up and they are not going to get the houses that are being given up .. So no win situation..
ReplyDeleteIt isn't new this procedure, Councils always try and get people to downsize so as families can get houses with more rooms. If an elderly person were to give up a three-bedroomed house then it would be available for a family wouldn't it.
ReplyDeleteI'm at a loss to see how it could be unfair?
To this observer, however, if an elderly person wanted to stay in their larger house for sentimental or other reasons (suitable for family visits etc) then they should be able to do so.
It means young people don,t get any of the view field houses...that's what's unfair!
