Suburban changes tack on the Bus Station

Pre election the Suburban Community Council were staying out of the argument over the planning application for the Bus Station. Now it appears that under new Chair, Dick Youngson, they are planning an intervention which will support the NICEafarians and West CC. That leaves River CC isolated in their support of the shop and three storeys of flats proposed for the garage. River CC meet on Tuesday night for their first post-election meeting. Will the bus station proposals be revisited?

no wonder the owners of bus station get frustrated, they are trying to utilise the derelict building, but are stopped in thier tracks at every opportunity by nimbys,(not in my back yard)let them get on with what they want, and tidy area up,instead of blocking them every time

Let's not get too carried away with this, whether the nimbys are right or wrong, the bus station building has been lying derelict for years and it's only recently that the developer has decided to put plans forward.

  3. This observer believes there is a majority that would like to see something happen fast and have no objection to another modern building à la Firestation, Sports Club, Police Station and Community Centre- nearly forget the sheltered housing there. The modern side of the road if you like.
There may even be a majority in favour of the third version of the building as pictured recently in the Nairnshire.
What the antis have to watch out for is if the application falls and a blame game starts. Then they could be isolated at the margins of Nairn politics with Nairnbairn, unable to have a platform to debate other issues without accusations and broadsides being fired from all directions.

Object, Object, Obeject!! This seems to be part of everday life in Nairn these days.....
It seems no matter what anyone wants the objectors voice is always the one we hear above all else. Perhaps if some of those that object to progress were to put their money where their mouth was and try to develop something themselves it would be interesting to see what they might come up with, it might help them realise that developers need a return on their investment to make it worth their while. If development(and making a profit) in Nairn becomes unvialble then private investment will dry out and Nairn will never move forward.....
