Recently we reported how the Lord Lieutenant of Nairnshire Ewan Brodie had explained to the joint community council meeting how he would like to see Nairn get involved in the Big Lunch with an event in Viewfield on Sunday the third of June. Basically it seems that the Big Lunch would in fact be a big picnic sort of event.
On Tuesday night River CC deferred discussion on the whether they should get involved in organising Jubilee events until their next meeting. Last night (Wednesday) at the West CC meeting Rosemary Young speculated whether the Community Councils were the best vehicle for organising such an event and said: “It isn’t really a community council thing, because it’s hard enough to get you to come to a meeting let alone to a big lunch.”
Rosemary continued: “If we had somebody in Nairn heading it up who really felt keen about this then I think everybody would embrace it.”
This observer feels that it isn’t that the Community Councillors are anti-jubilee, they are prepared to back events if they happen but they generally don’t want to get lumbered with the time consuming organisation that will inevitably be involved. Rosemary also indicated that the Rotary have a similar position: “Rotary are quite happy to join in but they didn’t want to sort of be there in front saying this is what we should do but if someone puts something on, they’re going to support it and I think that is what everyone feels really.”
I'm surprised that the West CC isn't more gung-ho re the jubilee, I'd have though that they would have loved the idea of digging our their barbecues along with the red, white, and blue bunting, and the union flags
ReplyDeleteThing is, just as we have just one tory MP in Scotland I don't think there are that many more royalists, but maybe that is not realised in royal circles
I hope SEPA will be approached for a licence to burn a bonfire on our lovely beach
And in times of severe cuts what were HC thinking of giving all their staff a day off at a cost of hundreds of thousands of pounds?
If the Lord Lieutenant of Nairnshire is so keen to see a Jubilee lunch why doesn't he organise it himself?
ReplyDeleteI don't think you have to be a Tory to be a royalist Anon.
ReplyDeleteI think we should have a vote on the Gurn do we people from Nairn want to put something on or not to celebrate the occasion of the Queens Diamond Jubilee, its either yes or no as simple as that, either you back us or you dont and if the councilors that are voted on can or cant be bothered lets just see your true colours if you want to get involved.
ReplyDeleteThere are many families in poverty in Scotland. How about rather than feed well fed faces at Viewfield, money is collected to give these folk at least one much needed meal on the day?
ReplyDeleteIn truth suggestions of a Big Lunch are embarrassing, much better to save your sarnies for Independence Day!
ReplyDeleteThey won't last for another 300years....

ReplyDeleteNever was a truer word spoken.Lets all have a big lunch for a change!
What happens to your big lunch if it rains. I know of course that it hardly ever does rain during Moray Firth summers.
ReplyDeleteThis thread is now closed. Do you want to know what Anon. I'm not really interested in the wealth of the Queen in respect to poverty etc. If you want to have a go at that then create your own blog. This post is really all about whether people in Nairn can be bothered with the Big Lunch concept or would rather do something else or nothing.
ReplyDeletePersonally I think we all possess obscene wealth in this country compared to what some people's daily existence is. How many people would still be alive if they could simply get what a town the size of Nairn throws into the bins each year?
We all share the responsibility for poverty in this world not just one individual.
