We reported how at the last joint Community Council how there had been a feeling that the Links would be more suitable for the community's Jubillee celebrations than Viewfield. At last night's River CC meeting Tommy Hogg reported that there had been a change of heart by Suburban and things would now be getting underway in Viewfield after all. River were happy for Suburban to take the lead along with the museum and were obviously wishing them well in their endeavours . This observer thought however, that a general lack of interest in a Viewfield event pervaded the atmosphere last night in the Community Centre.
Me thinks The Gurn has the feeling that there is very little enthusiasm regarding this event & after I had spoken to some people from the town when it was first announced the response was practically nil & really they were not that bothered about the celebration,so Im in the the same agreement as The Gurn.
ReplyDeleteWell I hope as the day draws nearer you will change your mind. The area is a lovely spot with many new trees about to be planted next week. We have already approached several groups with a view to some musical entertainment and so far they've all appeared to be very enthusiastic. All we need is a lovely day weatherwise, a decent picnic basket and a holiday spirit. Whether you are a Royalist or not, it's a chance for the community of Nairn to get together and celebrate where we live.

A 'Nairn' day, now that's something I would support
ReplyDeleteJust heard the news that Perth is once again a CITY. Congratulations to them, and I hear HRH is going to visit. There will be an attempt to have the largest number of kilted runners in Perth.
ReplyDeleteNairn could follow this theme and have kilted cricketers celebrating on the links wicket.
Kilted cricketers for Nairn could be good. Eleven is probably about the right number for those wanting to celebrate this event!
ReplyDeleteThink how many Maidens would be bowled over by the site of kilted cricketers on "The Links", no balls is on a sticky wicket & has left me stumped with his comment I bet there would be plenty of Gentlemen out there willing to done the kilt, its a wicket idea but the rules would have to be strict & could be slightly controversial do you go traditional
ReplyDelete[no underwear] as there might be a glimpse of a googly now & again there could be an appeal regarding this which could keep the wicket keeper busy, but my declaration is this should definitely go ahead & I'm sure there would be many a good lengh delivery on show & maybe a an inswing now & again.
If it's only about 'celebrating where we live' it should not be spun as a jubilee event ergo pro-monarchy. Republicans will be welcome too then. Anyone wishing to contact republic@stirringthecauldron.co.uk
ReplyDeleteyes something unusual to get Nairn on the map before the rest of the summer to encourage lots of lovely tourists
ReplyDeleteTake away the many traffic lights, thats bound to put nairn back on the map for something positive. The local tour guide could set up guided walks of where each much talked about set used to be positioned, and pin point talks about the history of stress it caused to many.
DeleteHow about we blow up the old community centre for the jubilee event, it would attract a few folk and we could watch it from the safety of Viewfield
