Around 120 folk in the URC church tonight
with Minster Steven Manders in the David Dimbleby role with 7 of the 8
candidates for the Nairn ward in the dock (there was no Tory candidate
present).
Plenty of debate. Here at Gurn HQ we are
working on the video we made of the 1 hour 35 minutes of debate and hope to
show you segments of how your candidates fared under the spotlight.
Two brief headlines. One of the first questions was whether any of the candidates are Freemasons. The response? None of them are. On the issue of a single community council for Nairn members of the public were asked for their preference and the majority wished to see such a body for the Royal Burgh.

More soon.
Hi Anon, so you liked Ritchie and you thought the SNP were dreadful. Fine, but not taking any comments on candidates' personal appearance. We are all different and thank goodness we are.
ReplyDeleteWent along to The Hustings but a bit disappointed that they were not more questions allowed from the audience, also noticed when I arrived that all the 7 candidates [the Torry could not make it due to commitments ] were sitting round a table before the meeting were getting briefed on the subject matter regarding the questions that were to asked, but it was good to see a good turnout on a dreich night.
ReplyDeleteWere they getting briefed or was it just the equivalent of the BBC "Green Room" hospitality?
ReplyDeleteGetting them all slightly relaxed and probably contributed to the event's success.
Apologies 1st anon, you liked Laurie as well as Ritchie.
ReplyDeleteWe need one council for Nairn. Give the people the vote on this - it isn't what the community councillors want, how many are unelected anyway? It is what the people of Nairn want. Give us the vote on this.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a supporter of the SNP, however having listened to the other candidates responses to questions they had access to prior to the hustings, I will be voting for Colin and Liz. The others, particularly Ritchie and Ashley, did themselves more harm than good ! One or two of them can "talk the talk" but thats where it stops, I suspect.
ReplyDeleteVery enjoyable hustings. Did'nt know that Councilor Marsden worked in the catering industry all those years. I'd have thought by now he would be tiring of feeding people
ReplyDeletecr.p ! His response to the question relating to the issues of Provost was laughable. At one point he even suggested each elected councilor being provost for a year, God forbid, Oor Graham as provost !
What is the relevance of question 3?
ReplyDeleteAnother Mason under the bed conspiracy theory?
My Granny used to say, "Never trust a man who dyes his hair"
ReplyDeleteI don't know how anyone can say after the hustings that Liz and Colin were the best. They were awful but will probably get the votes because of SNP. And how did Ritchie do more harm than good? He was the only one that spoke well out of the lot - he wiped the floor with them. But I do agree about Ashely - didn't think much of him at all.
