Yesterday this observer had a useful day out in Edinburgh attending an event sponsored by Creative Scotland which turned into a bit of a blogger/#hyperlocal content meet-up. It was a fascinating experience but more about that today perhaps if time permits. We had a particularly stimulating chat with one of the folk that contribute to Greener Leith. It will come as no surprise to learn that Dog Poo is not only a problem in Nairn. In Leith citizen activists are going about the business of targeting the offenders with home-made advertising. The posters and stickers in Leith are reminiscent of similar ones that went up in Nairn in 2008 and also of the more extreme method preferred by one local resident. Time for Nairnites to get creative again too and/or just simply steal the designs from Leith?
Note to all the local election candidates - whoever comes up with a decent policy to stamp out (mmm) doggie jobbies in Nairn will be onto a winner.

I overlook a popular dog walk path and cannot tell you how many times I have spotted a dog doing the business whilst the owner furtively looks up and down the path to see if their are any witnesses to his dogs call of nature. Nobody in sight often means the offending poo is just left. I'm too far away and old to chase after them or I would
Nobody has the answer or we'd be using it, but I'd like to see us start with the reintroduction of dog licences and also every dogged being chipped and DNA'd at the owners expense. The license fee would be hefty enough to allow us to employ an army of dog wardens, how about we start charging the same amount as the TV licence. No money, you choose, dog or TV?
Are there too many dogs, maybe, but certainly too many irresponsible owners who also seem to have little control over their dogs once they let them off their leads
No doubt this will rile some owners, but actions speak fro themselves with the amount of dog poo that is around, and worse, stuff that has been bagged but then dumped rather than binned

IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET A PHOTO OF THE DOG AND OWNER AND YOU MIGHT GET IT PUBLISHED AND THAT MIGHT ACT AS A DETERRENT TO OTHERS IT IS AN OF FENCE NOT TO PICK IT UP
Debbie MacGuire the Community Works manager with responsibility for Nairn (yes you guessed it - based in Inverness) told the River CC meeting earlier this week that if a persistant offender allows a dog to mess about the same time and place everyday etc then you can ask the Highland Council to send along the dog warden to witness the event and stick a ticket to the value of £50 on the steaming turd. Well she didn't exactly say that but you get the idea.
Dealing with persistent offenders is one thing but what about the instances where owners do not notice their dog leaving a little something? Just a single instance for each owner and the blobs just keep piling up. Unpleasant as it may sound getting to know your dogs habits - and as a dog owner sadly I do - realising that there is every chance that they will do a poo, watching them like a hawk and then CLEANING IT UP is the only way.
A bit harsh calling them a "steaming turd", why not just call them "dog walkers"
