The scene around 11.00 a.m. in Nairn town centre as the newer additions to the old community centre start to vanish from the landscape. Bigger picture here.
UPDATE: the new perspectives of the town centre starting to show bits of themselves - pictures here.

A lot of good building material just being crushed/sent to landfill, I bet very little of it if any is being recycled. Proberly wasn't a factor in the council tender when it should have been
ReplyDeleteAs sad day to see destruction, rather than modernisation.
ReplyDeleteSo sad to see the usual inward-looking beggar-thy-neighbour attitudes in this inward-looking little town. For me I am just glad to see this eyesore eliminated from the landscape!
ReplyDelete@ poor wee soul, the Central Demolition guys are putting the girders and other metals to one side.
ReplyDelete.. and a postscript - why are the first two comments here effectively anonymous? If you believe what you write, why not be honest and tell people who you are? Scurrilous comments without validation are worthless.
ReplyDeleteFolk have the right to be nostalgic or even express the desire to have seen the old building modernised rather than destroyed. I don't find such expressions at all sad, more so the people who can't tolerate different ideas or views to their own
ReplyDeleteWould that be for the Local Irn Brew
ReplyDeletecrew?
Yesthe girders could be away to make Irn Bru, but are more likely to be on their way to China soon.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, Central Demolition are making a fantastic job of it. Maybe the really big show might start tomorrow or Monday and that probably won't take long too.
It'll be nice to see the new landscapes.
Not sure why you take the trouble to comment on the Gurn Bill, most of the comments are 'effectively anonymous' on this site. Not all are 'scurrilous' and none are 'worthless'
ReplyDeleteIf they cann't sell the community centre site, it would not surprise me if they make the area " pay to park" they ve got to make some money out of it, I hope this rumour is not true.
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly coming down fast. Will they be selling souvenir stones?
ReplyDeleteHadn't heard that rumour. Fact however, the library carpark is not owned by the Council but by the same company or individual that owns the library.
ReplyDeleteany news on the old bus station, is it next too go under the hammer, they would not have far too move the machine, then perhaps the old regal.
ReplyDeleteThen Rosebank Church. That eyesore that's been there for years. I've been in the old church hall a few times, but can't ever seem to remember the church being used.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a demolish and recycle there.
The interesting question about recycling is - what happens to the slates from the old church roof, and the quality hardwood flooring? Those are the really valuable bits
