And a wee gurn from our correspondent Vix Sinex:
"The demolition of the Old Community Centre continues apace. The back wall has been opened up and the reinforced concrete framework is slowly disappearing. Unfortunately
there appears to have been an accident with the bucket and the integrity of the roof on the old Police Station has been compromised by smashing into the corner. Pictures here and here. In the current inclement weather it will not be long before the interior suffers significant water damage. I hope that within the demolition contract a sum has been set aside for peripheral damage and that our elected members make sure that a speedy AND FULL repair is carried out but I have no doubt it will be a make do and mend as usual. Remember councillors, you were elected to represent our interests. That building is part of the heritage of this town. The timing for the repair starts now. We will be watching you! "
Vic Sinex
Thanks Vix, we understand however that Highland Council have been informed by the contractors.
Aye and some blue sky thinking needed in order to pay for the new one!
ReplyDeleteits getting their not long and the lot will be down, not before time well overdue, please let them carry on to the old bus garage and rid our town from one more eyesore.

ReplyDeleteThe gods used Christainity as temptation to repel people away from themselves, the pentagram being the holy symbol of the gods, and of their Chosen One's teachings, the Second Coming, Lucifer.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget::::It is not a house of Jesus.
Christianity is evil. It is responsible for slavery of Africans. It is responsible for this wickedness known as the United States.
There is a major difference between how Europe and the rest of the world were inflicted with xtianity:::Push vs. pull strategy. As a result, expect the "1000 years with Jesus on Earth" may be reserved for the Europeans and few others who were forced into this evil religion:::The god's management of culpability defines the level of compensation everyone receives.
The god's primary goal with this Situation was the minimization of culpability arising from the 20th century and liberal counter-culture. Everything I have taught is true. Now that this Situation is complete you people have been taught. The gods are no longer/minimally responsible from this point forward, pitiful "reach around" compensation for ruining your Planet Earth. Their empty promise "We'll make it up to him." has been met with similar inadequate compensation, and the gods will find a way to wash their hands of this obligation to me as well.
Morality is irrelevant. If they were honest how little they ultimately intended to grant me my sacrifice would have ended long ago, but they used this lie "We'll make it up to him." to further my misery, just as they do with all of you, adhering strictly to positioning, with absolution of obligation on the agenda for the future.
My experience is obscene. I paid everything. But at least they got what they wanted.
The gods may be immortal but they are not divine:::Man invented god 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years ago.
Artificial god.

ReplyDeleteHas a photo been taken of the damage? Is it worth the community council writing a short letter to the ward manager, cc all the local councillors and Chief Executive, (with photo included)pointing out the damage and requesting that THC takes action to repair the damage to prevent further deterioration of the building?
@ anon 11.58 Yes Vix Sinex has pics, we haven't had time to publish yet. The Gurn also understands that Highland Council are well aware of the wee knock.
ReplyDeleteWe recently also had pictures pointing out the deterioration of this buildin. Are Highland Council doing enough to look after it?
Pictures of that coming soon too.
Well done to Vic Sinex for keeping a beady eye on this, and to the Gurn for ensuring the public are aware.
ReplyDeletePart of the purpose of the current work is to ensure the older and architecturally significant buildings of Nairn are visible and valued. The former school/temporary police station is a listed building - as indeed is Viewfield House. The Council has a legal obligation to maintain and preserve them and protect them from damage. Not doing that well, are they?
Incidentally, using that former school/police station building as a back-office for Council finance officials is rather a waste of what should be a public asset, just as turning the other nearby stone buildings (the former police/social work premises) into housing shows a lack of imagination.
So as well as ensuring the damage is repaired, the Council should be looking creatively at making these buildings accessible and useful to the wider public, both visitors and locals. Tourist info office? Alternative library?
Any chance of some sort of vision or plan for the town centre? Ah, hasn't that already been suggested, or promised?
Aawh...where will he seagulls go? Some people better not answer that question. Maybe to the new centre or police station, I was near the bus depot at around 10pm a few nights ago, the amount of baby seagulls is huge and the parents even swoop at cars. Why don t we have a fund where people from Nairn contribute, say a pound each then we could employ some people to get rid of the eggs next year. It sound so simple but I suspect some do gooder will find a reason that this wouldn't work.

In the UK, all wild birds, their nests and their eggs are protected by law.
Most fortunate they did not hit the toilet block.Just imagine the S*** that would have been flying then.
ReplyDeleteThe remark about all wild birds being protected by law .. I think you will find that as long as nests and eggs are got rid of humanely it is not illegal.
