It'll be discussed next Tuesday (21st) in Inverness. There's money available for affordable housing in Nairn but it seems this is the only site immediately available which was a big factor in the decision. You can read the reasoning behind the go-ahead recommendation here. This observer wonders what Nairn's councillors will have to say on Tuesday. Whatever happens this divisive application will upset quite a few people.
Also up for debate on Tuesday is Tornagrain. Maybe they'll have a team in the Highland League in a few years time when the 4.960 houses get built.

I can so see the NIMBYS climbing the Viewfield green lung (trees to you and me) in protest
Will someone step forward from the West end to become Nairn's answer to Swampy? There are several contenders I can think of
There again they may sit in the road and block the Games procession as it heads off towards the Links on Saturday, or drown their sorrows in the inflated beer tent
Strong letters were written in protest, now what?
All said and done?.
A shame to see the commercial aspect lost. As stated in the post, councillors will be looking next week at the south Nairn development.
Yet where is the extra room for expanding retail and business services in the town, if every town centre site that becomes available is simply turned into residential flats?
Sorry Brian what is that you are saying abut South Nairn?
Fatuous comments about tree-climbing Nimbys deserve to be ignored for the short-sighted prejudices they reveal.
Brian Turner spots the crucial point:
"Where is the extra room for expanding retail and business services in the town, if every town centre site that becomes available is simply turned into residential flats?
How long has the Bus station site lain empty and derelict? Apart from a couple of tentative enquiries from some retailers no one has bothered with this site. How long do we wait for some great white hope to come knocking? Especially given the current economy?
Brian obviously does not know his
Tornagrain from his Nairn South elbow.
Apologies APTSec, I misread the piece when mentioning "south planning" and "Nairn" as referring to the South Nairn development being looked at in conjunction with the Tornagrain one. It had been a long day. :)
