Nairn pupils to go electro

Good news for young musicians at Nairn Academy in the following Highland Council press release:

Electrolabs, a mobile contemporary Apple Mac based electronic music production experience which uses professional industry standard performance software will be setting up in Nairn Academy next week to give pupils a taste of how modern music is created and produced.

Led by experienced professionals Dave Martin and Steve Gasgarth, the sessions running each day will give pupils fascinating in-depth hands on learning experience and develop their understanding of how music is produced and performed. Several mobile workstations will be set up within the school fully equipped with professional recording and performance equipment and over the week pupils will be able to learn how to use it to create and perform contemporary music.

The Electrolabs experience was set up by Dave and Steve who between them have 40 years of experience as sound artists, producers, performers, musicians, DJ’s and workshop designers with credits for film, radio, dance and theatre.

Dave said. “We live in a world led by technology and wanted to come up with a way of introducing young people to top level music creation and production using the same equipment professional’s use. This form of music is very specialised and as the majority of schools do not have the equipment or resources available, we came up with the practical solution of bringing the mobile studios to schools to give pupils a chance to use the technology to create their own music.”

Chairman of The Highland Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Committee, Councillor Alasdair Christie said: “When I heard about Electolabs I was very excited as pupils don’t get the opportunity to handle such specialised equipment yet it is used to create much of the music young people listen to.

“By holding the sessions in such an authentic studio setting kitted out with the latest technology, everyone taking part will get a good grasp of how professional artists work. I wish them all a very creative time and look forward to hearing some of the music produced at the end of the week.”

Earlier this month Electrolabs visited Glenurquhart High School and next month sessions will take place at Gairloch High School. This event is just one of the year-round programme of music education events organised by The Highland Council.
