This season it been honours even in the league for the two
title challenging sides, today settled the score for this season however as the
Wee County toppled the Clach out of the Highland League Cup. Was it two goals
for man of the match Robbie Duncanson or did John Cameron have a touch on the
first one too? Anyway a great atmosphere
at Station Park and another one to savour from an excellent season that still has
some way to go. Good too to see the Nairn starship stormtrooper, complete with
County scarf, on Asylum Seekers Hill with the rest of the hardcore.
Clach came out hard in the second half and
played like a team transformed, they had several shots ridiculously off target and
then some on but thanks to some cracking saves by Calum they failed to find the
equaliser. A red card for Sean Webb unfortunately in a game that bristled with
yellow cards at times and Sean attracted the referee’s attention twice so he
had to go but despite his exit County hung on to the final whistle despite
renewed Clach attacks and a disallowed goal for the Merkinchers. Jamie MacKay
and Junior Mendes came on as subs for Paul MacLeod and Connor Gethins
respectively.
County’s reward is a semi-final away trip
to either Keith who beat Buckie on penalties.
Earlier in the day the Fans Ground
Improvements Fund Coffee Morning was a great success and raised over a thousand
pounds. Donald Wilson revealed over the tannoy at half time that the fund now
stands at £12,000. A few pictures of the game below and more images to come later.
