NICE have great ambitions for the old Social Work buildings. Read more about that in this previous article. There's still a long way to go before anything happens though but some NICE activists have been busy cleaning the building up over the weekend . It is often mentioned how this prominent building is visible to thousands of people passing through Nairn every day and thus important that it is properly cared for.
Here's a picture we received earlier today. Rosemary Young told the Gurn:
"We cleaned the gutters out on the social building - hope we don't get locked up but quite appropriate as the cells are just the other side of the door in the picture."
Well down Rosemary and her NICE team! Maybe this sort of activity could catch on during summer weekends?
These people should be valued for their efforts within the community,it's just a shame that Council budgets had not been met to assist this kind of work. If it wasn't for people like those offering their time, would the local authority's that built these buildings in the first place actually care about maintaining them too.
ReplyDeleteI think they call it a "Homer"round
ReplyDeletethese parts.?
@ anon, never heard of voluntary work being called a "homer".
ReplyDeleteHanging gardens of Claymore gardens next?
ReplyDelete@ anon re H&S - today had the opportunity to communicate your concerns to the chief culprit involved in this operation.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure if my place had some TLC it would look much better and so would Nairn. Do I just send my address to NICE to get the free makeover?
ReplyDeleteDon't be fooled NICE are hoping to buy the building from the Highland Council for £1
ReplyDeleteI do not agree with Nice getting the building for one pound. It should be sold to the highest bidder and the money being put back into upgrading other things in and around Nairn that are so desperetly needing funding. Iam not against Nices idea of getting the building and they do have some great ideas of doing something with the building but its us Tax Payers that has payed for the building and the sale of it should be put back into the Nairn Community as we all know we are in desperate times at this moment.I honestly think us people of Nairn should be given a right in the saying of the sale of this building and should it be given to Nice or should it be given to the Nairn Community Fund.
ReplyDeleteIt appears there have been no bidders for the building up to now and if it were to be sold it would be for Highland Council to spend the money as it wished and none of it might be spent in Nairn.
ReplyDeleteSo at the moment the building remains empty. If anyone else has a business plan of any kind then now's the time to come forward with it.
They were lucky to have a giant in their team to hold the ladder
