“Let’s all go to Runrig!” Nairn 0 Brora 2 – pictures from Donald Matheson

There was a big crowd up at Station Park yesterday, swelled by the colourfully dressed Cattach hordes, many of the ladies in short tartan skirts and the whole ensemble came with pipes and drums. The Cowshed was theirs for the afternoon and they made the most of it. The ignominy of the six-nil dismemberment that they suffered at the hands of the Wee County last season was exorcised as they earned a not quite comfortable 2-0 win. Their goals were from Zander Sutherland and Andrew Greig. “Let’s all go to Runrig,” they chanted in the dying minutes of the game.

On the face of it not too many reasons for the County fans to be cheerful at the end of ninety minutes but Nairn created periods of domination and moments of inspired class. Angst was expressed online later by one or two fans but, yes, we are now six points behind the league leaders – however remember that there are 32 more games to go yet before the end of the season. There are no certainties in football and it has been a bumpy start and Les Fridge will remember that when he looks to the visit of Fort William in the North Cup on Tuesday night. Thanks to club photographer Donald Matheson for the images. Individual images here.

PS and what a brilliant night up was had by all at the Runrig 40th anniversary gig at the Black Isle Show ground. Someone has put up on Youtube the moment Donnie Munro came back on stage with the band after a 15 year absence.
