A96 traffic delays in Nairn this lunchtime - roadworks near town bridge
The scene just outside Bridgemill Direct around midday today. Traffic was moving extremely slowly and had backed up beyond the Sainsbury's roundabout in the Forres direction at one point.

It took me twenty minutes to travel from Beech Avenue to Albert Street! Absolute shambles. God knows how far back the traffic was on the west side of the town!
You'd have been much better walking or cycling ! But seriously, I'm sure BEAR have followed all the correct rules and guidance when issuing the permit for the works to be carried out, and I'm sure the works are necessary, but if there was ever a case for working night shift this is it !
After taking 30 minutes to get into Nairn from Auldearn I decided to take the Howford Bridge route back out and round Nairn as I wanted to go towards Brodie. Crazy tailback otherwise!
The line between barely moving traffic and gridlock is pretty thin in Nairn, today we swayed towards a total halt. Further proof that we need a bypass or just less traffic lights?
I think we have to remember that yes its a pain and yes night shift would work so much better and normally they do try and do that but in this case it was gas works and they suspected a leak which is obviously potentially quite dangerous so they had to act quickly.

Think the unofficial Sandown Road, Altonburn Road, West End bypass will be busy today.

Could they not work nightshift.

Sorry don't agree with 7.29pm post, the leak i heard was suspected through the night, i saw gas board testing top of harbour st. 5 hour before.
