Flying a kite to see how a kite festival would be received in Nairn

The "Find it in Nairn" facebook page reports:
"The Association of Nairn Businesses have been approached by a company wanting to organise a regular kite festival on the beach or the links during the summer months."
Reaction to the idea seems to be overwhelmingly positive - more here.

I've heard rumour of lots of new activities in and around our beaches, everything from motorbikes to canoes going up and down the river. Kites sound good

Totally agree on that issue Anon.
After all, Nairn already has more than its fair share of established Kite Flyers.

Excellent idea.

Great fun for kids and adults, entertaining for spectators as well as participants, doesn't make a lot of noise or pollution, doesn't mess up the beach....

What's not to like? Bring it on!

I will pass all the positive comments from both the Gurn and Facebook to the firm who are proposing to come and stage the event. I'm sure they will be impressed at being welcomed with such open arms

Would be a great addition to the Nairn events calendar. Hope that they come forward with some firm plans.
Kite-making was an activity at the Central Beach "Seashore Roadshow" led by the Highland Council's Countryside Rangers back in July.
Hope that the schools could get involved as well.

Em, anon@6.24 while this looks spectacular, I don't think there would be much chance of any schoolkids flying this lot? Seems to be more for spectators than participants as the kites seem to be the size of small hot air balloons.
Looks like it could be great fun to watch though.

What a great idea when things don't go right for you can tell who ever it is involved. Go fly a kite.
