Complaints about Showfield showies aired at Community Councils meeting.

At the meeting of the Nairnshire Community Councils tonight in the Community and Arts Centre the subject
of the showies in the Farmers' field was discussed. Chair Dick Youngson told the meeting: “The neighbours are a little bit disturbed with the noise, it's really bang on Lodgehill Road, there is quite noise they weren't consulted. Nobody's said anything about the showies being there. They were wondering who to complain to.”

Rosemary Young then said: “It has been actually unbearable they say, not only with the noise but the diesel fumes coming from the generators. So I think we should pursue this so that this doesn't happen again, certainly without the residents knowing it is going to happen.”

The meeting agreed to take the issue up with Highland Council. More images of the showies here.

UPDATE: Interesting article in the Courier today (28/03) on the family who run the Showies that are sited on the Showfield just now.

It has been unbearable, constant thud thud thud

Perhaps the residents who find it unbearable would be happier with a supermarket or some other development on the showfield instead- thought not??
Personally I'd rather have a few nights of music and the open green undeveloped field year round, or is it a case of having your cake and eating it.
If it doesn't get as much use for different things as possible then irreversible development will eventually happen and another green space will be lost......
Ask yourself is local football team and few dog walkers enough to keep the developers at bay, for the moment perhaps but long term I suspect not, use it or lose it!!

ach stop girning,i bet you go to the games and showies on games day,and don't give a thought about the residents there, who put up with it yearly,
typical nimby, stop whining and let folk enjoy themselves in this hard times, and also help showman make a living,,im sure they were in Nairn and bought from local shops

It's great for the bairns and a lot cheaper than the showies at the links on games day

i totally agree, what real harm is there with them only being open about three and a half hours out of twenty four for only a week out of the year? so out of 8,760 hours in the year they are only operating for a total of 168 hours over the week, not much disruption there i would say ! hold tight !

I don't hear any of this when the showies arrive at the Links and inflict this nuisance on all of us who live in the surrounding area for weeks at a time, together with the rubbish and the noise of punters coming and going late into the night

Could they not have been accommodated at the A96 end of the field where there is a little more space between the field and houses? They would then have been more visible from the road and possibly picked up more custom. I am sure they have bought in some much apappreciated extra income to the farming society and a little bit of life to a long winter, I hope they are back next year and bring some pals with them, as I beleive the days of the summer shows are numbered if they do come this year after the council have priced them out.

Time for half a dozen blocks of flats on there then, that will keep the showies off.

Don't know who was doing the complaining but definitely not all the residents were moaning. Some were quite happy for there to be a bit of life in their part of town for a wee while. It's been awfy quiet round there since the fermers moved their show to Auldearn.
