Laughter, Tea and Chat Promised at the LTC (long term condition) Lunch - Weds 19th March

On Wednesday 19th March the Reshaping Care for Older People (RCOP) programme is hosting a lunch in the Community Centre for all those living with a long-term condition in the Nairn area. It is doing so in partnership with the Let’s Get On With It Project (LGOWIT) and Nairn Healthcare GP Practice. The RCOP programme is a Scottish Government initiative to facilitate the development of new initiatives within the community to support older people, such that they are able to maintain their independence for as long as possible. The LGOWIT project is a partnership supporting and promoting self-management for those living with a long-term condition in the Highlands.

The purpose of the event is to explain more about the benefits of self-managing your own health in the hope that more people living with long-term conditions will consider this approach. There will also be some discussion around the potential for setting up a new support group covering all long-term conditions. In addition, there will be plenty opportunity to meet and talk to other people in a similar situation to yourselves.

The event will be very informal starting at 11.30am with a fun introduction to a new activity, called Boccia (form of French boules) – it’s a fun, seated game, which you play in teams and is becoming very popular in the Highlands. This will be followed by a series of short interactive talks, including a number of inspirational stories from people living with long-term conditions who attend local support groups. The event will be rounded off by a free buffet lunch with time to mingle and talk with those present.
