Both the Nairnshire and the Courier have articles on the Lidl proposal for a store next to Sainsbury's up at Balmakeith, the Nairnie splashing on the front page with the story.
This observer would imagine that there might be those that would warn against this because of the potential effect on the High Street. The many Nairn residents that travel to shop in the company's stores in Inverness and Forres would be inclined to have the opposite view however. Full story in this week's Leopold Street Thunderer.

oh goody
that,ll be more traffic lights
There was talk of aldi coming to Nairn before that. Perhaps lidl got there first!
Maybe the planners will do the same as they did with Sainsbury's and make Lidl pay for a load more traffic lights.
On the topic of traffic lights if they do let them improve the road infrastructure we must remember LIDL is a German company... The Germans are not know for inefficient traffic lights.
Sainsbury's was a English company and the English have this horror show: http://goo.gl/543Fta
Scary set-up that traffic system Dave. We have to remember that Sainsburys were forced to pay for the lights though, the money could have been used for all manner of more sensible things in Nairn.
Don't know about effecting the High Street. I went up the street yesterday and it was hard to find many shops open.
What a load of negative comments.. typical, gurning whingers.. I for one think a lidl will be fantastic in Nairn, not only competition for Sainsbury, but will save me and my others having to travel to Forres or Inverness for ma ginger nuts!!
Maybe they will get them to pay for a new road bridge from Balmakeith over the railway into the Lochloy estate.
Will they be made to put Gaelic signs up too just like Sainsburys. Then again Polish signs may be more appropriate.
Personally I would prefer Aldi but it's great to have more choice in Nairn.
Good idea Anon, will ask them :-)
