I maybe in the minority here but I really think the outdoor equipment is a serious waste of money - it will be interesting to see how the equipment bares up during a hard winter and the salty air. I would be keen to find out the total cost of this and if money has been set aside for repairs etc. Monies could be better spent in Nairn on such things as the Bailey Bridge or Firhall bridge. And as for the plans for the putting green, yet another crazy idea of spending money when something is not paying its way, maybe if the kiosk was open it would be financially viable but certainly not at the mome
I'm joining your minority. Outdoor gyms might be great in the likes of Venice beach in LA but who'll want to use this equipment in the cold and wet. Very expensive bird perch that'll you'll have to clean if you do want to have a go. Delighted to be proved wrong but more equipment inside our leisure centre would have been much more use
The Gurn understands from a council source that the equipment was part of a large batch that has gone to several sites and was purchased for a remarkable cheap price. If it helps keep a few people fit then it can only be good thing. It is quite understandable that people might feel a bit upset though against the background of ongoing cuts but some things are still going through the system. Enjoy the facility and others while you can because these times may one day be remembered as halcyon days when there were things such as local authorities.
The cuts will no doubt be bizarre. Even economically speaking sports facilities and clubs are no doubt cheaper to the country due to the cost an overweight/obese nation costs to their employers, nhs and even social care. But as the budget is separate it'll be cut hard. I for one see any additional sports equipment as a good thing as long as they're good value for money.
As a 60 year old orienteering, climber and golfer I think this is a wonderful facility to include during a run along the seafront. Well done on this great initiative.
When you join a gym the first thing you are shown is how to use the equipment properly and safely. I walk along the front often and mostly I see young children playing on the equipment or very young children being swung on it by their parents What happens if a youngster has an accident on unsupervised equipment? Just a thought

ReplyDeleteNice to see a possible Nairn MP swinging from the bars, media training?
