Due to severe staffing pressures, NHS Highland regrets that it will have to close the A&E Department at Nairn Town and County Hospital, Nairn, from 1pm-7.30pm today (Thursday, 25th December).
Anyone who requires A&E treatment is urged to go instead to the A&E Departments in either Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, or Dr Gray's Hospital, Elgin.
Dr Adrian Baker, NHS Highland's clinical lead for the Nairn and Arderseir Locality, said: “This is not as decision we have taken lightly but we have been unable to secure sufficient staffing cover and have to close the department for part of the day as a contingency measure.
“We regret any inconvenience or difficulty this may cause.”
ReplyDeleteHire more staff - merry xmas to all - hope nobody hurts themselves over xmas. This is happening too often. Hope no fatalities occur because of this.
Wait until Camereon gets in again next year there will be no hospitals anywhere.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous:5:14 I think you'll find the NHS in Scotland is fully devolved and therefore any shortfalls are entirely the SNP governments responsibility.
ReplyDeleteAnon 6.06. So you don't think that the destruction of public services in England will be reflected in lower pro rata funds via the Barnett Forumla anon. Let's quote Danny Alexander, someone who has seen the light on the road to Damascus:
ReplyDelete"In an interview with The Independent, the Chief Treasury Secretary said: “The Tory agenda to keep reducing public spending beyond what is necessary would result in the wilful destruction of important parts of our public services. That is not appropriate or right for this country."
I say again, the NHS in Scotland is the SNP's responsibility, nothing to do with Cameron.

ReplyDeleteThe management of the devolved budget is of course the responsibility of the devolved administration.
How much pocket money Westminster passes back to Holyrood is not the SNPs control.
We might rather spend more on health and less on Trident for example. Perhaps next time :-)
Why give free prescriptions to every person in Scotland?it's not necessary. Only those under a certain income should be given free prescriptions. That would help boost the funds for NHS Scotland, but it's not popular for them so they won t do it, we are the only country in the UK that does it.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing would be some sort of small charge for hospital parking. It would help the fiasco that is raigmore car park.
@ Anon 3:11
ReplyDeleteFree prescriptions for everyone encourage some folk to go to their GPs whereas a charge for them might not, in the long run this can equal preventative care than might well save NHS monies. Also how do you factor into any income level the number of prescriptions that people need to take or the frequency. Free healthcare should mean just that
As for parking at Raigmore, no one goes there for fun. How is a parking charge going to help with congestion?
Anon at 3.11
ReplyDeleteUnless you introduce charges for the vast majority then it is not worth it. In Englandshire they have prescription charges at almost 10 quid for every item payable if you earn the princely salary of about 15 grand.
Pass your Tory proposals on to our closet Tory MP, Danny :-)
People park at raigmore because it's free and then they go to their work nearby or by bus to town cheaper for them than paying for parking, especially if you have to dork everyday. That's why raigmore car park is so busy.
ReplyDeleteFree prescription
ReplyDeleteThe Tories would let the rich get free prescriptions and charge the poor.
The scottish gov. give everything for free.
I know that people get a prescription for things they used to buy over the counter, how can that be cost effective for the NHS Scotland?
5.20pm
ReplyDeleteYou may "dork" every day. But parking at the multistorey isn't expensive. Cheaper and more convenient than your urban myth :-)
You only have to have stayed in Raigmore Hospital to see the stream of cars arriving in the morning with office and shop workers parking and taking the bus down to work. Then at 5pm and after the buses going to Raigmore are packed as the same people are coming back to pick up their cars. Get in the real world. Should have a token which you get in the outpatients or ward to allow you to leave the carpark, then maybe people who desperately need to park would be able to find a space.
ReplyDeleteIts 3.50 to park all day in the central multi-storey. How much are 2 busfares if you are under 60?
ReplyDeleteI had to attend an outpatients appointment (8:30am) everyday for six weeks at Raigmore and was stopped several times by security as I entered the car park to check as to who I was and why I was there
ReplyDeleteTo be honest having been a long term patient at Raigmore I would suggest that the dropping of car park charges made little or no difference to the amount of spaces in the car park
It's all about taxes, how we collect them, how much and from who.
The rich want to hang onto their piles and socialists want an even spread. I'm for equality myself so guess what I want
