The Highland Council have finally obtained a key for the snazzy information board installed in Castle Lane five months ago. The key is now in the hands of River Community Council Chair Tommy Hogg. Speaking elsewhere he said:
"I have the keys now and will be keeping them secure. It was decided the Community Council would take it on for the sake of convenience. It had become almost comical"
Folk used to get awarded the keys to a city, is this Nairn's own take on this tradition, the keys to the information board? If so congratulations Tommy, freeman of Nairn
ReplyDeleteNot much hope for running more at a local level if we can't even look after a key
ReplyDeleteWe should really declare a new local holiday when each year the good citizens of Nairn get to see the information board key on public display for all to view and to prove that it's not once again lost
ReplyDeleteIs Tommy Hogg a qualified key holder then? From what I remember this is a rigorous three year course that only a few manage to pass and have the honour of being able to put a key in their pocket
ReplyDeleteIs this now an official position like that of Provost and therefore will we see Tommy attending the opening of supermarkets and the like?
Honourable key holder of Nairn said...

Aye! ... Tommy H. should be @ the front alongside the dignitaries leading the pipe bands into the arena on Games Day!;-)
will tommmy now be able to claim vast expenses, like the other councillers do?
ReplyDeleteSplendid progress.
ReplyDeleteIt's the internet age and Nairn is celebrating the erection of a town notice board.
Maybe in 2016 we'll even get a town crier.
oyez Oyez
So Tommy holds the key to all information in Nairn, I always knew this man would do well
ReplyDeleteI reckon it's an MBE or something even greater next
Community Councillors work for no salary or expenses anon it is only the Highland Councillors that get paid.
ReplyDeleteGood to see Tommy has been trusted with such a key position in our community
ReplyDeleteWill Tommy get a gold chain to put round his neck to hang the key off? I think Laurie might have one spare or is that still lost?
ReplyDeleteSurely all this information should be displayed on our new notice board rather than this old hat electronic form in the Gurn.
ReplyDeleteI'm about to send Tommy one of those new fangled telegrams with info I'd like displayed, so can I ask you all to go and have a look tomorrow on the information board (Might be Friday if Tommy's no up the street tomorrow)
Tommy said "it had become almost comical". Become? Almost? I think the whole thing very easily fell into a farce.
ReplyDelete'snazzy' have't heard that word for several decades

ReplyDeleteWhat can we put in this information board, forthcoming events, ceilidhs,?
Do we just phone Tommy and get him to open the door?
I think Tommy should put in a advert in the new information board for a vacancy for a Nairn Town Crier. I dont think he would have a problem filling the vacany for a crier as there seems to be plenty of them.
ReplyDeleteI assume the first notice to be displayed will be to announce the finding of the key?
ReplyDeleteI look forward to reading the information board, I can see it's going to be a new rival for the Gurn and the Nairnshire. Competition is healthy?
Was key ever delivered with noticeboard?
ReplyDeleteDid key get furnished by manufacturer because they hadn't sent it originally?
Is this a story?
Is this a gurn?
Has anybody asked the guys up at Bal blair?
Is the bearer of the key position to be rotated amongst the three community councils?
ReplyDeleteSeems only fair that they all get a chance to lose it
A big hoorah , well done Mr T, a key has been sourced, so we can read all about it. Will there be a plaque considered to be attached for the future, stating the mystical story of the lost key for the tourists. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHow do you get a poster put on to the notice board? It would be good to know how you go about this. Is it a case of leaving your poster at the service point? For it to be picked up?
