Gas update - temporary traffic lights on A96 for a week and no access from the trunk road into Harbour Street and High Street for 4 weeks

A post on the SGN website states:

"From Monday 3 August there will be two-way temporary traffic lights in place for approximately one week on the A96 while we are working at the junction of the A96 with Harbour Street, High Street, Bridge Street and St. Ninian Road.

For approximately four weeks there will be no access from the A96 into Harbour Street or High Street. Traffic will also not be able to join the A96 from Harbour Street. Local diversions will be in place.

We are sorry for inconvenience caused and would like to thank road users for their patience while we complete our essential work."

Can one assume that access to the High Street will still be available from the A96 up Gordon Street??

Just what we need at holiday time more traffic hold ups in Nairn. Its the only trunk road do they not realise this and no easy diversion only onto back roads because the queues that will be here. Have they informed traffic scotland as I cannot find anything warning drivers on their website

On Wednesday and Thursday all the elite athletes and a few thousand supporters will be passing through, both ways, to the orientering in Darnaway. probably quicker to walk!

It will be a right disaster if there is a accident on St Ninian Road and the police shut the road as they do every where when there is an indecent. And the brae is closed off at the same time??

Going to be even worse when they start work on the high street 21 weeks from the 7th of September.

the unofficial nairn bypass will be in full swing this week then....

lets hope the dodgy bridge at Cawdor will be able to handle all the traffic..... ;)

When phase 3 starts how will delivery vehicles get to the High St?

I hope there will be access for disabled drivers to use high street during high st.road works, some drivers cannot walk far,and need to use the road in high street
for easy access to shops,if no access is allowed it just puts them off using Nairn shops and off they go to inverness etc.

Oh, ffs, moan, moan, moan. These are essential works which will replace old gas mains, what difference does it make what time of year it's done? Unfortunately there will be disruption but a lot of folk (drivers) only look on how this will affect them.

Nothing i can find about the works on the A96 on the Traffic Scotland site.

The work does need doing, that's fair enough. My problem is with lack of information and notification to residents, shop owners and road users. I've still not received any official notice from SGN about the works. I'm due to get work done on my building during these works, will I still be able to do this, will there still be some essential restricted access? I am assuming some access needs to be maintained for emergency services etc. I'd have organised the work to be done earlier if I'd known that the road was going to be shut for months.

Apparently there have been meetings and there are more in the coming month but I've not had a notice about any of them (has this been posted online somewhere - apologies if I have missed it). Am I expected to buy the local paper every week just so I know when work is going to be done on the road I live on? In this day and age it isn't really reasonable. I'd given up checking the highland council website for closures as they never seem to both announcing them unless they are in Inverness.
