No one disputes the works are essential but they could have been done overnight to minimise disruption. I take exception to you suggesting people are whinging because they had to sit in a bit of traffic. But it is not just this week. For most it is the final straw. Try being sat in it day in, day out, month after month. I can understand their frustration. Do you have the same comments for the drivers of emergency vehicles?
A few years ago a new gas main was laid across the north-east. Rather than closing roads and dredging rivers they used a technique called 'Directional Drilling' which used a fancy machine that bored a tunnel beneath the road/river and the pipe was pulled through. Was that option considered for this job?
For directional drilling a whole new path is created for the pipe. Due to all the the other services that run underground throughout the Harbour St, Brae and High St this wasn't an option
Whoever agreed to this work being done in the height of the tourist season should be held accountable and removed from office. If the work was as essential as claimed then it should have been done earlier on in the year. This is an extremely poor advertisement for holidaying in this area and the long term consequences of this fiasco will probably be felt by local businesses for many years to come.
Come along! Hop up here! We'll go for a jolly ride! The open road! The dusty highway! Come! I'll show you the world! Travel! Scene! Excitement! Ha ha ha!
Happy to see the plod speed camera van positioned just after the West End garage today picking up anyone who happened to be speeding post the roadworks
Disgusting state of affairs yet again in Nairn. The planning of all of these on-going roadworks rings a wee bell of 'couldn't organise a p**sh up in a brewery'. Seriously, with all that is on-going, couldn't they do a TRIAL PERIOD OF SWITCHING OFF ALL THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS IN NAIRN for a fortnight and let that be judgement as to whether Nairn needs the copious amounts of annoying delaying lights. Finally, whats going to happen next Saturday with the games....oh dear!
Ruined a lot of peoples day out - think of the enormous waste of petrol as well.
ReplyDeleteImagine the outcry had the old gas pipe been left to blow with possible loss of life and the town being shutdown plus no gas.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe how so many people can be so selfish in their thinking.
The gas main replacement was a job that needing doing, the work's not been done for the fun of it
So you sat in traffic for a while, duh

DeleteWhat about the overnight option? Was that ever considered?
