Cinema Nairn celebrates seven years in business on Friday 29th January in the Community and Arts Centre 7.30 pm with "Seven Year Itch"

The Seven Year Itch 1956 (PG)
Friday 29th January 7.30 pm
Nairn Community and Arts Centre

Cinema Nairn celebrates seven years in business with a screening of the romantic comedy, ‘The Seven Year Itch’. Famous for Marilyn Monroe in ‘that white dress scene’, the film was adapted from George Axelrod’s Broadway hit and directed by Billy Wilder.

Tom Ewell stars as a middle aged New York office worker, who has been left alone in town while his family are on holiday. When a ditsy young blonde moves into the flat above, his imagination begins to work overtime with hilarious results. Even though 1950s censorship made the story a little lacking in realism to today’s audiences, top class comedic timing from both stars keeps the action fizzing along, and promises a very enjoyable evening.

Very disappointing line up of films this coming season from cinema Nairn, they seem to just be catering for themselves! Nothing for kids and families, maybe they should have a rethink as not everyone can afford to drive thru to inverness and pay the silly prices. Don't think you can call it cinema Nairn when you are catering for the few!

What do you want to see then anon? Maybe some of the new releases well that might be just a little too difficult and costly for Cinema Nairn?
We heard that there were 80 people at the matinee performance on Monday so quite a few people satisfied there.

Perhaps anonymous is keen to get involved, to help broaden the appeal.

We certainly aren't short of folk in the town willing to criticise those who try to do things.... you could make a film about it...The lion, the whinge and the wardrobe...

Well put Spurtle
Less critique - More doing, doing, doing.
Nobody stops people making Nairn a better place.
Many thanks to all those who give their time to make Cinema Nairn the success it is.

Thanks for the feedback - it's always good to get interest in our programme, even if it's not always what we want to hear. We have tried to programme films aimed at a younger audience before, but they failed to attract sufficient numbers for it to be a viable option. Our main aims are to bring 'hidden gems' to Nairn that may not have had a large release in Inverness, even in Eden Court, as well as films that have a Scottish connection. And we are very keen to maintain our Matinee Programme on Monday afternoons. To do this we have to supplement the programme with some more popular films that are likely to attract larger audiences so that we can balance the books at the end of the year. The highlight of our season every year is the silent film that we put on at The Little Theatre every September in conjunction with The Nairn Book & Arts Festival. The film is accompanied by Andy May on the keyboard with his brilliantly improvised play. This event is always aimed at attracting children and families, and those that are part of the sell-out crowd every year, absolutely love it. But sadly, very few children attend. Our AGM is in a couple of weeks, so that would be a good time to come along and put ideas to the committee. www.cinema-nairn.co.uk
