Been to Inverness again today and...

...feel that I am actually beginning to like the place at last. Anyone know a good therapist?

On a more serious note, was waiting just after five to cross the A96 at the fire station side of the pedestrian crossing at the Leopold Street junction and the lights on the A96 were at red to let traffic out of Leopold Street. A situation where you might have been tempted to cross to the middle of the road before the green man shows. A lorry driver that had stopped decided to move off through a red light. Also waiting to cross were other pedestrians including a mother holding a baby. The bypass can't come soon enough. Take care out there when crossing the A96 because some drivers obviously aren't in the slightest bit worried about pedestrians!

The crossing Harbour Street to the Brae are even worse. No lighting and when its wet and dark v poor visibility for both drivers and pedestrians. A disaster waiting to happen.

Interesting theory to start of a story implying you're looking for a therapist, simply from admitting you have learned to enjoy something naturally about life!!

.......so has any actions / recommendations been made since the tragic fatality last year at the crossings in Nairn on the A96?

Everyday I see drivers blatantly going through red lights @ Leopold St & Seabank Road. I have reported this to the police & they said they will highlight it @ their next road safety meeting.

Meeting of the A96 focus group in the Courthouse today anon, perhaps something will emerge into the public domain on that.

Matters are not helped on the A96 due to the fading road markings. The yellow boxes that drivers aren't supposed to enter unless there is a clear exit are not clear especially of a wet, dark winter's night. On several occasions I've been unable to exit Leopold St onto the A96 due to other vehicles stationary within the yellow grid boxes, and worse have seen drivers move their cars through this junction when the pedestrian crossing lights are green. It's driver error but not helped by so many traffic lights in Nairn. It'll be years before we get a bypass (if ever), we need the traffic light situation in Nairn resolved now, not later or we'll be facing more tragedies

To Anon @ 8:30PM

That crossing has been like that since I first started complaining to the River CC & the Police. I have got newspaper cuttings from the NT with me in them complaining about this dating back to 2002!!

I myself have been VERY nearly (only my quick reactions have saved me) taken out/run over/killed on numerous occasions by people driving through from Aberdeen or turning towards Inverness from Harbour St.

I have on occasion managed to get the plates or description & reported to Police, but nothing conclusive as no proper proof except my word.

In my opinion NOTHING will get done about it until someone is killed.

People say to me I am mad for doing Climbing, Ski-mountaineering etc as those are dangerous sports. I always reply, "try crossing the Brae/A96, THATS dangerous!!"

To all the comments above a quick response to say that all of the above points were covered/laboured at the meeting with the Transport Scotland reps. No doubts things will progress slower than we all would like BUT they came to listen, they did, they summarised the main points needing attention and I came away hopeful that over the next while they will address most if not all of the points noted.

I felt it was worth my time attending but the proof will be their follow on action!

It's to Nairn's detriment that some people are very happy to cite the mythical bypass as the placebo for all our traffic problems.

Issues have been punted by various individuals/bodies over the years but I cannot think of one positive measure that has come from this unless of course anyone thinks that the multiple sets of traffic lights are a positive addition to our traffic problems?

I'm sure Transport Scotland reps have listened, but as yet we've not seen any action and I wonder if we ever will?

Switching off traffic lights has worked to ease some problems in other parts of the country, why can this at least not be trialled in Nairn?
