NHS Highland inform us:
"The minor injuries unit at Nairn Town and County Hospital will be closed from 7pm tonight (14th June) until 8:30am tomorrow.
Anyone who requires the service during this time is asked to go to Raigmore Hospital.
This will not affect contacting the out of hours service which people can still access by calling 01667 452096.
We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause."
'minor injuries unit' - I thought we had an full blown accident and emergency service at Nairn hospital? No matter closed, and everyone (hopefully) knows if you're really ill go straight to Raigmore anyway
ReplyDeleteBack in January I was really ill anon and went up there and although I was later dispatched to Raigmore I am very, very grateful for the service I received at Nairn, it enabled speedy action through in Inverness. Understand your concerns however and hopefully an explanation will soon appear.
ReplyDeleteThe world has changed. We are not remote or rural. We do need a better model for GP-led, community-accountable services. However it probably makes sense to have a single, inner Moray Firth centre 24/7/365.
ReplyDeleteWe have never had a full blown A&E service but I and my family are very grateful for the service we have received from Nairn hospital both for relatively minor things but also for an end of life situation. I hope this is not the thin end of the wedge. I am sure NHS Highland would love to close it down altogether. We all need to keep a close eye on this. (Anonymous because my spouse works for NHS Highland and don't want my views to impact on my spouse unless it comes to a fight to prevent closure )
