Nairn traffic light hell max is back?

The scene this evening around 6.30 pm as long tailbacks were still in evidence as folk made their way homeward tonight from the Inverness direction. It has been like this for most of the week with social media ablaze with irritated motorists. The Remove Nairn Traffic Lights facebook page has even posted pictures taken from a drone.

There have been serious delays on Leopold Street too all the way back to and including the High Street as drivers are unable to get onto the A96 even when the lights are green. Just what we need for peak tourist season and to encourage people to stop and spend money in Nairn? Several suggestions being made this week that the Lochloy Road junction lights are to blame once again.

  1. If the Highland Council breaks up and we get a Nairnshire Council, we definitely need to ensure that it has control of traffic issues, where possible. This whole issue is a beyond a joke.

The Council and Traffic Scotland Brain's Trust in action again ( should be non action). The inability of respective management units beggars belief - perhaps an outbreak of common sense soon however methinks the patient is terminally beyond repair!

Thursday evening at 5.30pm the tail back from the Lochloy Road lights was past the Sandown Farm Lane, the lights appeared to only be letting 6 cars through at a time. We went set around 9.30am yesterday and everything was moving going east as there was hardly any traffic. By the time we returned at around noon we chose to turn off at the set of traffic lights at the church and rejoin the A96 at the roundabout from Marine Street... this is beyond a joke - what is the community council doing to flag it up to Bear Scotland?

I know the Nairn bypass was pushed forward by the current SNP government but I wonder if they were dependent on any funds from the EU? Many capital projects are

Walked up/past King St. several times today. A96 was totally solid from the roundabout as far as the eye could see in the direction coming from Inverness, & in the direction going to Forres.

Funny how we never had these massive tail backs BEFORE we had the superfluous traffic lights installed.

I bet Bear will send another group of "engineers" to stand around all day at every set whilst they fiddle with the timings to prove that they are doing something.

    Just remove them!

See what happens when the UK votes to leave the EU, this is an omen of what's to come

I have lived in many parts of the UK and nowhere have I seen so many traffic lights in such a short distance. None of which seem to be coordinated either. I have watched many a driver go through on the red light and this in turn causes even more chaos. Who on earth was the Traffic Engineer who planned such folly?

Pedestrians need to be able to cross the A96. It's almost impossible at any time during the day.
What about the less able. I do think though that Manse road / Waverly road....might have been a better choice maybe than Albert street.
It is one of the main routes to the hospital.

Seemed to be less congestion today... possibly because there were no HGV's - are they using the Cawdor rat run. Lights at Loch loy Road junction still only allowing 6 cars through!
