Plans for A96 Nairn Bypass set to go on public display

Transport Scotland press release

Following the publication of draft orders today confirming the line of the proposed route for formal comment, a series of public exhibitions will be held, starting in Nairn on 7 December 2016.

Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Jobs and Fair Work, Keith Brown said:

“The Scottish Government has given a clear commitment to dual the A96 between Inverness and Aberdeen by 2030 which will deliver around 86 miles of upgraded road between Scotland’s two northernmost cities.

“As part of our ambitious programme we have been progressing the design work for the Inverness to Nairn (including Nairn Bypass) scheme and we are now in a position to publish draft Orders for this scheme – a major milestone in delivering this much-needed improvement.

“Our proposals go on public display from 7-9 December and I would encourage everyone with an interest to visit one of the venues or view the information online. “At the same time we are now undertaking design work for the western section of the route between Hardmuir and Fochabers and hope to let people see our initial options for this section next summer.

“We are working hard to progress the dualling of the A96 which when completed will help tackle congestion, make journey times more reliable and, crucially, improve road safety.”

Excellent. And then the Sainsbury traffic lights can go!

The exhibition is well worth attending, I went to one in Moray and was surprised to discover that the dialling probably wont be complete in my lifetime. I am not that old (well I dont think so anyway), but I certainly wont see it completed. To the commenter above, why remove the Sainsbury lights? They are really well used by pedestrians from the Industrial estate opposite. Surely would pose a hazard to remove them.

It is probably unlikely that the Nairn bypass will be built in anyone's lifetime judging by the pace so far. Don't underestimate the incompetence of the beloved Scottish Government.

'Don't underestimate the incompetence of the beloved Scottish Government'

Oh aye, just like the new forth bridge that should come in under budget. Can we have some more of their so called 'incompetence' please!

Edinburgh trams is perhaps an example that could be given of a lack of competence.

You need to do more research before you comment Anon. The Edinburgh Tram project was kicked off by Labour. The SNP who inherited the project were initially going to cancel it but were overruled in parliament. This was not an SNP project so you cannot say they were incompetent, prudent maybe in that they tried to cancel the fiasco

Any other examples of SNP incompetence you'd like to put forward or is the bottom of your barrel now scraped?

And yet the trams are there years late and massively over budget.

Well blame Labour for initialising them with very poor project management or budget controls. As said the SNP inherited the Trams and were outvoted when they wanted to terminate the project. They were late and over budget but the SNP warned that this would be the case

My original comment regarding the lack of competence of the SG was not aimed at any particular party that has been in power at Holyrood. However I have noted that the acolytes of the current administration get particularly paranoid and defensive if any criticism is directed towards them and their dear leader.
