7 pm 20th December 2017 and traffic jams in Nairn

There have always been things going wrong with Nairn's traffic lights since their installation. Tonight it wasn't much fun if you were travelling eastward. The video below shows the scene at 7 pm tonight (20th December)

.

Folk are taking to social media this evening to report taking 25 minutes to travel 300 yards.

Start of panic buying at Sainsbury's as they're closed for one day soon

It does not take anyone with half a brain that removing the traffic lights at Lochloy Road and replacing with a roundabout would solve the problem

There was the same situation when Belladrum and the Black Isle Show were on at the same time in the summer, you could not breathe walking up the A96. It was a case of cover your face or choke on the fumes. Absolutely diabolical, traffic jams have been going on for years now, backing up from Delnies to Auldearn. This road can not handle any more traffic produced by adding more housing developments. By the way there is no room for a roundabout at Lochloy.

In the past two weeks i have seen at least 15 vehicles go through a red light on the A96 at the Leopold lights.

something far wrong when it takes over 45 mins to get through a small town, cities like inverness /elgin do not have this problem, and if they did,it would have been sorted immediately, not like Nairn,5 years of this stupitidy.its time someone in power did something about it
w.mck.

Was out last night at 5.30 and the traffic was up to the Post Office. Leopold street was solid as was the High Street. Simply awful. They have messed up the settings once again and only 2 cars are getting out of Leopold street before they change. Also Lochloy is worse than ever with sync of lights awful and cars back up to Dunbar golf course - cant take much more of this - Tom fix it please.

The road through Nairn is difficult to be sure. BUT, if people were to stop straddling the yellow boxes at junctions and also stop going through the lights when they shouldn't, it might make the journey a little less stressful. Trying to get out of the junction at the back of Nairn Library, onto the A96 to turn right towards Forres is almost impossible. The lights stay green for about 10 seconds and if cars are indeed, straddling the junction, we just cannot get across the road. I have seen me turn left towards Inverness instead and then turn off left after the primary school, coming back down the High Street, to rejoin the A96 at the top end of Nairn High Street, by Brambles. The situation will get worse as more and more cars are on the road. Nairn certainly takes top spot for length of time to get along the A96. And, dont get me started on Elgin :) Happy New Year to all when it comes.
