Present at the meeting of the Nairn West and Suburban meeting on Monday night was Chair of River CC Tommy Hogg and during a discussion on planning matters he indicated to the meeting that NRCC had received information about an application for a drive through food outlet at 90 degrees to Sainsbury's and also a non-food retail outlet next to Sainsbury's.
There was a brief discussion then with a view expressed from the public benches that "it would just kill the High Street". Another view was expressed by Com Cllr Andrew Randerson however that he felt that many people (under 30-ish) were going elsewhere to spend their money on such facilities anyway and (subject to survey) it might be possible that no overall cash would be lost to the High Street.
There is no application on the Highland Council e-planning yet so perhaps this is simply a pre-planning process where statutory consultees are asked for their views by the developers? No doubt more information will be in the public domain before long. Maybe NRCC might give us a little more information soon on their website?
